Meet Darcee Nice: Alfaparf Milano Pro Ambassador and The Creative Force Behind West Brim Salon

When you sit in Darcee Nice’s chair, you’re not just getting your hair done—you’re stepping into the hands of an artist. A Louisville-based hairstylist, salon owner of West Brim, and a brand ambassador for Alfaparf Milano Professional USA, Darcee has built a career that embodies creativity, passion, and business savvy.
In this exclusive Q&A, she shares her journey, her favorite hair secrets, and what fuels her behind and beyond the chair.
Q: What inspired you to become a hairstylist?
At a young age, I craved to create. I always had this need to use my hands, but I didn’t know exactly how to channel it. In college, I realized traditional career paths weren’t for me. I spent more time braiding and styling hair than studying. My mom saw the spark before I did and encouraged me to pursue hair professionally. The moment I presented a braiding technique to my entire school was when it clicked—I was actually good at something. From that moment on, I held onto that feeling and never looked back.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you wish you had when you first started?
I wish I had truly embraced beauty school as a place to grow, not a place to be perfect. I was so afraid of messing up that I didn’t take as many risks as I should have. Once I was licensed, I realized that learning comes from making mistakes. You have to experiment, refine your craft, and trust the process.
Q: What’s the most rewarding part of being a hairstylist?
The life it has given me. I feel like an artist in my bones, and my career has allowed me to build the life I dreamed of—all through my love for this craft. I never take that for granted.
Q: How has your approach to hair evolved over the years?
I’ve learned that hair is both an art and a science. When I first started, I focused more on technique, but over time, I’ve become deeply invested in the why behind everything—understanding hair health, color theory, and how to create longevity in my work. Now, I prioritize hair integrity just as much as the final look.
Q: If you weren’t a hairstylist, what career would you have pursued?
I would have built something of my own. I love fashion and could have seen myself opening a clothing boutique. My husband and I also dream of owning a little coffee shop in our city, so maybe that, too.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I’m secretly a country girl at heart. I love off-roading, ATV rides, and van camping. My husband and I even traveled across the country in a camper van for a while, and we plan to get another one soon!
Q: How do you like to spend your time when you’re not behind the chair?
I live for balance. You’ll find me at a Lagree class, reading a book outside, traveling, or going for walks. I make sure my life outside of hair is just as fulfilling as my career.
Q: What’s your go-to coffee order?
Café au lait with almond milk and a splash of honey. Simple but perfect.
